What are you writing about?

I read somewhere that everybody has a story to tell. I believe the statement is true, but incomplete. The question I would ask, as it's related to getting published, is your story worth reading by someone other than a friend or family member?

I ask the question because I've been approached by several individuals who have told me they think someone should write about their family or maybe some non-specific location because they thought it would make for a great story. Truth be told, anything can be written in such a manner to make it enticing, however, if you are trying to get noticed, the first thing you need is someting a publisher believes will attract the attention of a large audience. What that might be for you could be very different than something I would be interested in. The key? Do a little research. See if what you are writing about actually has an audience who might be willing to put their hard earned money in what you have to say.

I am familiar with how contracts work, but not the internal works of a Publishing House. Is your work published yet? Do you have an agent?

Well, I am not that new to writing novels and stuff and I really love it! :) I am currently writing my second novel and I really need to know a lot about how a publishing company works and what are the things they do.... It's just a part of my story, The Runaway. Thanks so much.
